First-year Mavericks head coach Jason Kidd answered questions from the media following his team’s last-second win over the Boston Celtics. He spoke about Luka’s game-winning shot, Kristaps Porzingis’ return, and how the team displayed resilience.

“It’s a beautiful thing to watch in person,” says coach Kidd about Luka Doncic’s late-game heroics. Doncic hit the game-winning three-point shot as the game clock expired. Although he is new to coaching Luka, he is accustomed to “Luka magic”. Kidd attributes Luka’s clutch abilities to him loving the moment. Luka seems to shine brightest in these moments because he truly embraces them. Even when everyone in the building knew the ball was going to number 77, they could not stop him from performing his magic. This is a result of Luka playing professional basketball from such a young age. Kidd also pointed to Slovenia’s Olympic run. Doncic picked up tremendously valuable knowledge from that experience. The young star will continue to grow his NBA resume.

Aside from Luka magic, the Mavericks welcomed big man Kristaps Porzingis back to the court on Saturday. Coach Kidd was pleased with his performance. He cited a crucial block and tip in that Porzingis made down the stretch to propel the team to victory. He also shouted out Tim Hardaway Jr. for providing leadership. His name did not pop in the box score, but Kidd was grateful for what Tim brought to the table with his voice. He was adamant that you don’t need to score to impact a game.

Kidd assured the media that all wins count the same in the left column. He was proud of his team’s resilience and looks to build on it going forward.
